Are anti-wrinkle injections right for me? An honest guide

Are anti-wrinkle injections right for me? An honest guide

An honest answer to an important question

It is one of the most common questions we hear at the clinic in Ealing, and it deserves an honest answer rather than a sales pitch. Anti-wrinkle injections may be right for you, or they may not be, and the only way to know is a proper consultation with a qualified doctor who puts your wellbeing ahead of selling a treatment.

What do anti-wrinkle injections do?

A prescription-only medicine is injected in small amounts into specific facial muscles to temporarily relax them. This reduces the contractions behind dynamic wrinkles: the lines that form when you smile, frown, squint or raise your eyebrows. It does not change the skin itself and does not treat static wrinkles, the lines present at rest, which respond better to other treatments such as dermal fillers or Profhilo.

The effects are temporary, usually lasting three to six months. After that, muscle movement gradually returns and you can decide whether to repeat.

Who they can suit

  • People with visible dynamic lines, such as forehead lines, frown lines or crow’s feet, that make them self-conscious
  • People who prefer a preventative approach
  • Anyone looking for a subtle, natural-looking improvement rather than a dramatic change
  • People in good general health, who are not pregnant or breastfeeding and have no relevant contraindications
  • People with realistic expectations who are choosing this for themselves, not because of outside pressure

Who should think carefully first

A responsible doctor will always talk about reasons not to go ahead. It is worth pausing if:

  • Your motivation comes mainly from how others see you, or from social media comparisons
  • You expect a transformation. These treatments refresh, they do not remake
  • You are experiencing significant anxiety about your appearance, which may need psychological support rather than a cosmetic procedure
  • You are young and your lines are minimal. Sometimes the most honest advice is to wait
  • You have a neurological condition or take medicines that may interact with treatment

Dr Azoo is both an aesthetic doctor and a practising psychiatrist, so these conversations happen naturally and without judgement at the clinic.

Does it matter who treats you?

Very much. These are prescription-only medicines in the UK and should be prescribed and administered by, or under the direct supervision of, a qualified medical professional. The practitioner’s skill affects both safety and how natural the result looks. Poorly placed treatment can cause drooping eyelids, asymmetry or a frozen look. At this clinic, every patient is treated personally by Dr Azoo, a GMC-registered doctor.

What does a consultation involve?

It is not a sales appointment. We take a thorough medical history, talk openly about your reasons and expectations, assess your facial anatomy, and give you our honest opinion. That may include suggesting another treatment, recommending you wait, or supporting your informed decision to go ahead. We never tell patients they need treatment. It is a personal choice.

Our anti-wrinkle injections start from £200 for one area, and the consultation is free. To talk it through, book a free 30-minute consultation with Dr Azoo at the clinic in Ealing, call 07400 325 315 or email contact@drazoo.com.
