A beginner’s guide to anti-wrinkle injections

Anti-wrinkle injections for beginners, everything you need to know

Thinking about anti-wrinkle injections for the first time? It is normal to feel unsure. These are the questions first-time patients ask us most, answered by Dr Azoo.

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

A prescription-only medicine, injected in very small amounts into specific facial muscles, temporarily relaxes them. Because the muscles move less, the lines they cause soften. It works on expression lines such as frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet.

When should I start?

There is no right age. Some people come in their twenties for prevention, others later to soften lines that have settled in. A consultation will tell you whether treatment would help yet, and we are happy to say if it is better to wait.

Is it safe?

It is a well-established treatment, but it is a medical one, and the most important safety factor is who treats you. Treatment should be prescribed and carried out by a qualified medical professional after a medical history. Poor technique can lead to uneven results, drooping or a frozen look. At this clinic every consultation and treatment is carried out by Dr Azoo himself.

Does it hurt?

Most people feel a small pinch or sting. The needles are very fine and the treatment is quick, usually around 20 minutes.

What happens at the appointment?

  • A consultation and medical history, with no obligation to go ahead
  • You make a few expressions so the doctor can see how your muscles move
  • The skin is cleansed and a few small injections are placed
  • You may see small bumps for a short while, which settle quickly

What are the side effects?

Common effects are mild redness, swelling or bruising at the injection sites, and occasionally a headache. Less common effects will be explained at your consultation, along with aftercare.

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

The effect builds over about two weeks. Results are temporary and usually last three to six months, after which movement gradually returns. Many patients return a few times a year; how often is entirely your choice.

What about cost?

Our anti-wrinkle injections start from £200 for one area, and the consultation is free.
